The habit of reading is nurtured from childhood, which molds and enriches the growing minds, shapes their nascent values and develops the right perspectives. Reading is timeless and is recognized as an art, capable of transforming an individual.
We at GUK Residential Model School & College, strongly believe that good reading habits are source of knowledge. Following this aim we have initiated ‘Reading excellence Award’. Reading excellence Award will be given at the end of every academic year depending on the numbers of books students read during the session.
Aim
To inculcate reading habit among the students and foster the ability & desire to read is the fundamental chore of the library of GUK Residential Model School & College.
Objective
Reading is the art of interpreting printed and written words, the most effective process of conscious learning which influences attitudes, morals, beliefs, judgment and action of the young readers.
The objective of the same is
- To develop language skills
- To develop analytical thinking skills
- To increase the creativity of the students
- To improve concentration and focus
Reading Excellency Award
Reading Excellency award will be given to the students at the end of the year depending upon the numbers of books they read in one year.
- The books can be issued from the library. The books should be apart from your syllabus course.
- After reading the book, the student of class I-V has to appear for an oral story test and student of class VI-XII will appear for a written story test which will be conducted during the library periods/ substitution periods.
- Grades will be given for each written test. Every student is entitled to read minimum one book in a month.
- Only one book will be assessed at a time by the librarian in their library periods.
- Record of the books read by the students is to be maintained by the Liberian’s file.
- Only the books prescribed by the librarian will be considered the award.
